Their family is planning on taking a road trip from California to Colorado for a family reunion. From the start of this book, it is clear to see that the sisters do not get along very well. They seem to be opposite in almost every way and tend to annoy each other for the fun of it, so a whole weak in the car together quickly becomes a problem, but they finally make it to their family reunion. When the girls' cousins do not seem to be interested in hanging out with them, Raina and Amara begin to spend more time with each other. By the end of the trip, they have bonded. Of course, like any sibling relationship, they are not perfect in how they treat each other, but by the end of the book they seem to understand each other better and try to mend their relationship.
